Being an Introvert: What Kind of Introvert Are You? Being an Introvert: What Kind of Introvert Are You?
An introvert – is a person, that changes the world in silence. Carl Gustav Jung started to divide people into extroverts and introverts according to their temperament, behavior, and interaction with the outside world. Then, introverts and extroverts were divided into sub-types for a more detailed description of the personality.
How to tell an introvert from an extrovert
An introvert and extrovert are two opposite types of personality. The first is interested in his inner world, his emotions and feelings are extremely important while extroverts prefer the outer world. They are interested in the real external objects, social and practical sides of life while an introvert enjoys the world of thinking and imagination.
The introvert stores energy “greedily”, this energy is directed into his inner world while the extrovert spends it to interact with the outside world but he gets it from other people. The introvert, on the contrary, gets tired, when deals with the outside world, so he prefers to be alone and save his energy.
The typical introvert is a quiet, even shy person. He is incredulous, thus it is rather difficult to communicate with the outside world, so he keeps himself aloof, has a small number of close friends, but these bonds are always long lasting and strong. An introverted person does not like spontaneity, plans everything in advance, he likes order, including in his emotions and feelings which a person can control.
This type of personality, such as introvert, loves solitude, he tries to avoid the crowd and noisy companies. An introverted person may be called even detached and unsociable. The introvert never considers the opinion of other people, he acts on the basis of his opinion, views and convictions. He relies only on himself at work, his resources and capabilities. The introvert is a very cautious, conscientious, honest, polite person, his psychological defense against the outside world is based on these virtuous qualities.
Energy of introverts
If the extrovert gets his energy from the outside world when communicating with others, the introvert, on the other hand, needs other sources of strength:
- Thinking and dipping into his inner world;
- It is necessary to have his own space where he can be alone and where no one will disturb so long as he needs;
- It takes a long time to make a decision or to answer, spontaneous decisions drain energy, so it is always necessary to give time for reflection;
- The introvert reluctantly shares his impressions of the day – all of these conversations and violent interference in his world takes away energy, it should be considered in a relationship with an introvert. Do not be offended by his dry “okay” in response to the question “How are things at work?”, the introvert simply needs time to recover after he returned from work;
- Another source of energy for this type of personality is the ability to focus on one thing. The introvert is not able to do several things at the same time and switch from one thing to another.
That’s why the introvert should know about situations which drain his energy and avoid them in order to save it.
